Wrexham climbed back to second place in League One with a 1-0 win over Stockport County, thanks to Jay Rodriguez's first goal for the club at the Stok Racecourse.
Stockport began the game strongly, controlling the early exchanges in North Wales.
However, Wrexham were awarded only their second league penalty of the season just before the half-hour mark when Ibou Touray was penalized for a handball.
Rodriguez's initial spot-kick was saved by Stockport goalkeeper Corey Addai, but the experienced forward reacted quickly to smash home the rebound from a tight angle.
The goal marked Rodriguez's first since his move from Burnley in January.
Early in the second half, Arthur Okonkwo pulled off an impressive save to deny Callum Connolly's header from a corner.
Stockport thought they had found an equalizer through Kyle Wootton, but his effort was ruled out for a foul on Okonkwo in the build-up.
Wrexham threatened to double their lead on a counter-attack when Sam Smith's effort was saved by Addai, while Ollie Rathbone headed wide from a Ryan Longman cross.
Substitute Jayden Fevrier came close to leveling for Stockport with a powerful low drive that narrowly missed the target.
Stockport's hopes of a comeback were further damaged in the 81st minute when Brad Hills received a second yellow card, reducing the visitors to 10 men.
Despite a late chance for Smith, who headed wide, Wrexham held on to secure their fourth 1-0 victory in five matches.
The win takes Wrexham three points clear of Wycombe Wanderers, though Wycombe still have a game in hand.
Stockport remain fifth, now nine points away from the automatic promotion spots after suffering just their second defeat in 13 league games.
Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson said:
"It was always going to be a feisty affair, there was an edge to the game.
"But we stuck to the task, we got the goal at an important time and should have had a penalty before that.
"I'm delighted for Jay [Rodriguez] to get his goal, he's worked tirelessly for the team, he deserved that moment."
