Bournemouth centre-back Dean Huijsen has received his first call-up to the Spain national team after Barcelona defender Iñigo Martínez was ruled out with a knee injury ahead of their UEFA Nations League quarterfinal against the Netherlands.

The 19-year-old, born in the Netherlands, previously represented the Dutch at youth levels before switching allegiance to Spain's Under-21 team. He has been a standout performer for Bournemouth this season as they push for European qualification.

A product of Juventus' academy, Huijsen joined the Premier League club in July and has since made 27 appearances.

"Inigo Martínez has been ruled out of the Spanish national team squad due to a right knee problem," the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) announced in a statement. "In his place, Luis de la Fuente has called up Dean Huijsen of Bournemouth."

Spain, the reigning UEFA Nations League champions, will travel to Rotterdam to face the Netherlands in the first leg of their quarterfinal on Thursday before hosting the return fixture at Valencia’s Mestalla Stadium on March 23.
