Crystal Palace have exercised an option in Jean-Philippe Mateta’s contract, extending the striker’s stay at Selhurst Park until 2027.
The French forward, 27, was set to enter the final 18 months of his deal in January, with his original contract expiring in June 2026. However, sources close to the negotiations have confirmed to BBC Sport that Palace have activated the extension, securing Mateta’s services for another two and a half years.
An official announcement from the club is yet to be made.
Mateta’s Growing Influence
Mateta has been in talks with Palace over a new deal in recent months, buoyed by his impressive form. The striker has expressed ambitions to play European football and represent France at the 2026 World Cup, goals that continue to motivate his performances.
Under the management of Oliver Glasner, Mateta has flourished into a pivotal figure for the Eagles. His late-season surge last year saw him net 11 goals in the final 10 matches, helping Palace secure a 10th-place finish in the Premier League.
The Frenchman also shone on the international stage, scoring five goals for France at the Olympics and playing a crucial role in their run to a silver medal.
This Season’s Contributions
So far this season, Mateta has tallied seven goals and two assists across 21 appearances in all competitions. Despite his contributions, Palace find themselves in a challenging position, sitting 16th in the Premier League standings.
Upcoming Fixtures
The Eagles will aim to improve their league standing as they travel to Bournemouth on Boxing Day (26 December).
With Mateta’s future now secured, Crystal Palace will be hoping their star forward continues to deliver as they look to climb the table in the second half of the season.
