Paris Olympics: €500,000 worth of possessions stolen from Brazilian star Zico

27 July 2024

Former Brazilian football legend Zico had his bag, which contained possessions worth around €500,000, stolen in the French capital before the opening of the Paris 2024 Olympics.

According to the French media, the theft took place on Thursday, when the former Brazilian star left the hotel where he was staying in Paris by taxi.

After placing his bag, which contained a Rolex watch, diamonds and banknotes, in the back seat of the taxi, someone called the driver to divert Zico's attention, while another person seized the opportunity to steal the bag.

The value of the possessions stolen from Zico is estimated at $542,000.

Artur Antunes Coimbra, known as "Zico", 71, who played in three World Cups, filed a complaint with French police after being robbed from a taxi in northern Paris after leaving the window open, the prosecutor's office said.

The investigation has been referred to the Paris Judicial Police's Organized Crime Squad.

The Flamengo and Udinese player and former Japan and Iraq coach is in Paris as a guest of the Brazilian Olympic delegation.
