Vinicius Jr scored twice, leading Brazil to a 4-1 victory over Paraguay, kick-starting their Copa America campaign.

After a disappointing draw with Costa Rica in their opener, Brazil needed this win before facing Colombia in their final group match.

Despite a missed penalty by Lucas Paqueta in the 30th minute, he quickly redeemed himself by assisting Vinicius Jr’s opening goal after a brilliant team play.

Savinho added a second just before halftime, capitalizing on a defensive mix-up by Paraguay.

Vinicius Jr, who had struggled to replicate his club form with Brazil, scored again in first-half stoppage time by intercepting a clearance, making it 3-0.

Paraguay, sitting at the bottom of the group, responded with a stunning long-range goal from Omar Alderete shortly after the break.

Brazil was awarded another controversial penalty in the 65th minute for handball, with Paqueta converting this time to make it 4-1.

Tensions rose late in the game as Paraguay’s Andres Cubas received a red card for kicking out at Douglas Luiz.

In other Group D action, Colombia maintained their impressive form, defeating Costa Rica 3-0.

Liverpool's Luis Diaz opened the scoring with a penalty, followed by Davinson Sanchez's header and Jhon Cordoba’s close-range finish.

Colombia can secure the top spot in the group by avoiding defeat against Brazil in their final fixture on Tuesday night (02:00 BST Wednesday).
