Kylian Mbappe notched his second hat-trick of the Ligue 1 season as Paris St Germain, the league leaders, triumphed 6-2 against Montpellier on Sunday, breaking their winless streak of four matches.
With 59 points accumulated from 26 matches, PSG widened their lead at the top to 12 points over Brest. Meanwhile, Montpellier, holding 26 points, narrowly cling to a one-point lead above the relegation playoff position. Earlier, Brest settled for a 1-1 draw at home against Lille.
The visitors seized the initiative in the 14th minute when Mbappe's delivery from the left flank found Vitinha, who skillfully navigated past two defenders to slot home from the edge of the box. Mbappe himself doubled PSG's advantage eight minutes later following a slick one-two exchange with Randal Kolo Muani.
Montpellier managed to equalize before halftime, with Arnaud Nordin finding the net in the 30th minute, followed by Teji Savanier converting a penalty in added time after PSG's goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma fouled Tanguy Coulibaly.
However, Mbappe swiftly restored PSG's lead in the 50th minute, shortly before Lee Kang-in added a fourth goal. Mbappe completed his hat-trick moments later, courtesy of an assist from Vitinha, who also played a role in setting up Nuno Mendes for PSG's sixth goal in the 89th minute.
