France defeated Greece thanks to a retaken penalty from Kylian Mbappe, maintaining their unblemished record in the Euro 2024 qualifying round.
After Konstantinos Mavropanos' appalling challenge in which he kicked the head of a leaping Antoine Griezmann, the hosts were given a penalty kick.
After Odysseas Vlachodimos stopped Mbappe's initial shot, multiple Greek defenders entered the penalty area just as Mbappe was about to score.
Later, Mavropanos was expelled for defeating Randal Kolo Muani.
With this victory, France has won all four of its qualifying games without giving up a goal. Despite having played one fewer game than Greece, they are top of Group B and six points ahead of them.
As a result of Mavropanos' challenge on Griezmann, the Atletico Madrid star required a bandage on his head for the remainder of the game.
At the end of the second half, there were 14 minutes of added time, but Greece was unable to score an equalizer.
Republic of Ireland defeated Gibraltar at home by a score of 3-0 to earn their first points in Group B.
